You may think you know about the Apollo mission to the moon. But you may not know about L.A’s role — or the role of three Black aerospace engineers, among the first in the industry, who made crucial contributions to the space race. Their stories are told for the first time in a new podcast LA Made: The Other Moonshot, from LAist Studios.
At this special live event, hosted by Antonia Cerejeido (she/her) of LAist’s “Imperfect Paradise” podcast, we’re exploring their place in history. Today, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives have become highly politicized, but these men were able to enter the workforce because of early affirmative action by President John F. Kennedy designed to integrate the federal workforce. Come hear about L.A.’s aerospace industry then and now, and how their legacy is — or is not — being carried forward today.
